Draft — under legal review. This document describes how Root Film actually works, but it has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor. It may change.
Root Film makes it easy to produce convincing images, video and voices. That is the point of it, and it is also why this list exists. This policy forms part of the Terms of Service — breaking it is breaking those terms.
Do not create material depicting a real, identifiable person without their permission — including their face, their body or their voice.
Do not create sexual or intimate material depicting a real person, with or without their permission.
Do not use the service to make someone appear to say or do something they did not, in a way intended to be taken as real.
Do not clone a voice you do not have permission to clone.
Do not create, upload or seek any sexual material involving a minor, or any material that sexualises a minor. This is the one line with no context, no exception and no warning: accounts are terminated and reports are made to the relevant authorities.
Do not present generated material as a real photograph, recording or news event where doing so would mislead someone to their detriment.
Do not use the service for fraud, impersonation, scams, or to fabricate evidence or documents.
Do not produce political material designed to deceive people about who made it or what happened.
Where the law requires you to disclose that content is AI-generated, that is your responsibility. The provenance record can help you meet it.
Do not upload material you have no right to use — footage, photographs, music, logos, characters or designs belonging to someone else.
Do not use the service to reproduce a copyrighted work, or to imitate a living artist's style in a way that passes itself off as their work.
Do not create material that promotes or instructs violence, terrorism, or self-harm.
Do not create material that harasses, threatens, or incites hatred against a person or a group.
Do not resell raw access to the models, or pass your account through to third parties as a service of your own.
Do not use the service to build a competing model, or to generate training data for one.
Do not attempt to bypass safety filters, rate limits, credit accounting or usage limits, and do not probe, scan or attack the service.
Do not share your account or your provider keys with people outside your organisation.
Depending on what happened, we may remove material, suspend the feature, suspend the account, or close it. For anything involving children, or anything unlawful, we act immediately and report it.
Where the situation allows it we will tell you what the problem is and give you a chance to put it right.
If you see something on Root Film that breaks this policy, email info@vfxlosangeles.com with enough detail for us to find it.
